This is the Family Crest which dates back 'a bit' now. (There's silverware 'n stuff engraved with it . . . uh, floating about.) Mum made one of these for everyone, and this is the one she's had in 'her home' for many years. The motto reads 'Numini et Patriae Asto,' which vaguely appears to translate at first glance to something like 'For Coin & Country' - notably in that order ! A friend of mine who is a latin scholar, though, suggested a more correct reading would be 'Stand for God and Country' or 'I stand for - (etc)' (I think I like the unofficial version better somehow.)
